Winter Scene
A severed branch,
beset by weeds,
still reaches for a half-remembered eloquence:
the fluency of leaves
that spoke of sunshine in the spring.
The wind is blind.
It fumbles as it reads the scars of bark,
deciphers long-encoded agony:
the runic curse
that cannot be confessed.
